Transient Impulsion (TI™)

The TI™ method checks the uplift of a fully detached rock block with the transient pressures in the open joints around it.

  • transient pressures in the open joints under and around the block, computed with the same water-hammer solver as the TFM™ method
  • net force on the block in time from the pressures on all its faces and its submerged weight
  • resulting block displacement computed step by step
  • block ejected when its rise exceeds a critical fraction of its height
  • complements the MDI and MQSI uplift methods
  • available in the 2D and 3D DFN rock mass models
